Technology and education

        Technology and education

Technology brings an array of benefits to our educational systems, and allows global access for everyone with only an internet connection, and a device that can input and output data.

The concept of technology and data is already being put to use in developed countries, and proves to be very successful. It is fairly normal to own a technological device nowadays, and receive an educational program online, however this isn't possible in other countries that are not as developed.

Thus, I would begin solving the issue of education in underdeveloped regions by firstly providing internet access to regions without even electricity. A great project that Facebook has been working on is the use of solar powered 'drones' that achieve just that. They roam around these regions in pre-programmed roots, and offer free internet access to the people within that region.

Secondly, as a policy-maker I would enforce that all major technological companies must ensure that their e-waste is functional; in an effort to provide free technological devices to rural underdeveloped areas. It would cost the companies some percentages of profits, however this would be insignificant in relation to the advantages our world would experience, when everyone is more informed, and critical.

To close the digital divide gap, people in undeveloped regions have to become digitally literal in order to properly make use of the available technological resources, and educational tools. Thus, NGO's could be set up in order to give courses on how to use this technology, or simply use technology to teach how to use the technological devices and programs, through simulations.

Since another major issue regarding education is the amount of students that can be enrolled within a class; with technology this is no longer an issue, as classroom size becomes virtual, and homework does not need many teachers at one table marking endless papers, and tests. This can be done with one click, and the student receives their scores, allowing time for more practice, and efficiency. Instructions are also available 24/7, and students do not need to run back and forth for the description of an assignment, when it is available at one's convenient laptop.

Overall, applying such technology to conventional educational systems in underdeveloped regions; allows more access for more people to engage in an education. I believe the main reason many people in these underdeveloped places not receiving an education, is due to the fact that the conventional system no longer works in these regions, as it may be dangerous for the person to even walk to school. Especially in regions with gender inequality, women can avoid harassment till the situation becomes better, and receive a full-time education at home.
